Standing Up for Children: The CASA Mission

Standing Up for Children: The CASA Mission

Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASAs) are community volunteers who stand up and speak out to help abused and neglected children. The CASA program belongs to a network of nearly 950 community-based programs that recruit, train, and support citizen volunteers to advocate for the best interests of children in the foster care system.

In 2022, CASA of Lancaster County became CASA of Lancaster and Lebanon Counties, expanding their program to include children in Lebanon County’s foster care system.  Erin Small, Training and Recruitment Coordinator for CASA will introduce the history of the organization, the role of the CASA, and how to become involved. She joined CASA as a volunteer in 2018, and has worked three cases in that time. She is a Hempfield resident, parent of three and is also a public education advocate. She has been working in her current capacity with CASA since October 2024.

This Learning & Loving event will be open to the public, and all are invited. We hope to see you there.

Please join us for a different type of Learning and Loving when we host Pastor Tim Rogers and his daughter Megan Shertzer, authors of the book Beechdale Road: Where Mercy is More Powerful than Murder.

On Sunday, June 21, 2020, 18-year-old Linda Stoltzfoos of Bird-in-Hand, PA was kidnapped on Beechdale Road and later murdered by Justo Smoker. Justo is Tim’s brother-in-law and Megan’s uncle. Beechdale Road is their attempt to share their story of grief, anger and pain but also unexplainable grace, kindness and mercy at the hands of the Amish community. Tim and Megan’s hope in sharing their story is that you can experience what it’s like when undeserved mercy confronts undeniable evil, when kindness upends condemnation, when heaven engages hell. This is what they experienced at the hands of the Amish community and are hopeful its healing power can reach even further to you.

This Learning & Loving event will be open to the public, all are invited, and books will be available for purchase. We hope to see you there.         [attendance: 60]
